A very interesting development in the Episcopelian Church in the USA, which for Jewish readers of this blog, is the equivalent of the Anglican Church here.
Yesterday, Episcopelian Bishops voted to tackle anti-Jewish prejudice "expressed in and stirred by portions of Christian scriptures and liturgical texts"
Interesting that this should happen on the very same day as Chester's Anglican Cathedral sends out a depersonalised message stating that they are going ahead with Revd Sizer's hate fest, based in his replacement theology: the very theology I presume that the Americans are trying to stamp out.
The most pathetic aspect of Chester's decision is that they have given it the stamp of authenticity by saying their Bishop was consulted and agreed. For a historian such as myself, this resonates of what Holocaust commentator, Hannah Arendt, called 'the banality of evil'.
They are all little men with no purpose in life, so they latch on to Jew-hating for kicks and pretend that they are sorry for the Palestinians. Just as Hitler and his ilk also had no purpose, so they latched onto Jew-hating for kicks and pretended they were sorry for all those poor Germans.
Just like the pathetic specimens in NATFHE. It's the psychology, stupid.
Because the Dean of Liverpool Cathedral who allowed this to happen last month really was a pathetic specimen and the prayer he and Sizer intoned in order to drown out our comments was a total and utter disgrace.
The question is: will the ABC do anything about it?
