On Monday, we took our daughter to see Wicked at the Apollo theatre in Victoria. It was her birthday. If you haven't seen it, it is a parable for today's world. It asks why do the 'wicked' become so and why are the 'good' sometimes not what they seem.

Before that I'd had an off-the-record chat with journalists who are concerned at the way Israel is depicted in the media and also wanted to know why antisemitism is growing year on year in this country.
Yesterday, I went to see an old friend and colleague at Manchester University. He told me a few tales. Most concerning was that a member of the Orthodox Jewish community of North Manchester had recently been physically assaulted on a bus by a woman. She had apparently also shouted 'Bloody Jew' as the assault was being carried out. The victim was male.
