On BBC Radio 4's The World at One, the dignified cultured tones of the Bishop of Rochester (originally from Pakistan), as he speaks of the Judeo-Christian heritage of Great Britain, versus the bumblings of the (white) Suffragan Bishop of Manchester, Lowe.

A couple of years ago, the Suffragan Bishop of Manchester, Stephen Lowe, publicly berated the Jewish community, and especially the Chief Rabbi of the UK, for objecting to the Synod vote to divest from Israel. His exact words were that the Chief Rabbi, Jonathan Sacks, had 'over-reacted' (I wish!!!). A more cautious and circumspect person than the Chief Rabbi, sometimes to the point of diffidence one might add, would be difficult to imagine.

As a result, Bishop Stephen's boss, the Bishop of Manchester, invited leading members of the Manchester Jewish community, including myself, to meet with all four Bishops of the Greater Manchester Diocese. And it was quite obvious to any who had eyes to see and ears to hear that Bishop Lowe was not the most popular bloke in the room:
I've also heard from a very close friend in the Anglican Church that he's not the easiest person to work with, either. And according to her, that's putting it very politely indeed!!
As if this were not enough, the first link above also features (the white) Hazel Blears MP for Salford, joining in the baiting of the Bishop of Rochester and cooing her endorsement of our Steve!
(Does this constitute racism by the way? I mean two powerful white establishment figures against a Pakistani immigrant. Only asking. Or as Goebbels said when trying to persuade the great German author, Thomas Mann, whose wife was Jewish, to remain in Hitler's Germany: 'I'll say who's Jewish and who isn't'. They left for the USA, by the way)
If Hazel Blears isn't aware of no-go areas right under her nose, then I really do think Britain has a problem. For, as early as 1996, when we moved to the Broughton Park area of Salford, which is part of her constituency, we were visited by the local bobby. He was there to welcome us, he said, and to warn us which areas not to visit because of Muslim extremism. Oh, and could he have a few lessons in Hebrew with me, as it would help him with community policing!
Naturally, we were a bit shocked to hear of the 'no-go' areas and frankly didn't believe it, but subsequent teaching in schools in the area confirmed all he said and worse. The most complimentary remark that I ever received was this from a Muslim girl who came from the Cheetham Hill district of Manchester, formerly an area in which the Jewish community had lived happily amongst their neighbours.
Gosh, miss, we did like your lesson on Islam. Please accept this copy of the Qu'ran as a gift from my Dad. And we'll tell our brothers to stop stoning Jewish cars in Cheetham Hill
I think that says it all, really.
Meanwhile, here are some very interesting points from Melanie Phillips:
and Richard Littlejohn, who was brave enough to make a programme for Channel 4 entitled:
The War Against Britain's Jews?: I understand that the BBC turned it down (of course!)
