A most emotional live recording of the reunification of Jerusalem, June 1967
As today is Erev Yom Yerushalayim, the 40th anniversary of Jerusalem's reunification, you'll be interested in these links below.
For those in Britain, do attend the commemoration in London tonight.
Thanks to Gavin for alerting me to all this.
1. Historic and emotional "live" 11-minute broadcast from Voice of Israel radio, 7th June 1967
This is one of the most riveting recordings in the modern-day history of Israel. These are the dramatic sounds of Israeli Defense Forces entering Jerusalem's Old City and the Western Wall. You hear the sounds of gunfire and the footsteps of Israeli soldiers, as they draw closer and closer and as General Uzi Narkiss instructs them and asks to be shown where the Western Wall stands. We hear a triumphant Brigadier General Shlomo Goren, later to become the Chief Rabbi of Israel, as he recites the memorial prayer and sounds the shofar, as Israeli soldiers weep with sorrow over their comrades killed in combat.
Follow the English translation online. I wiped away tears from my eyes on this one.
