Just received this from a friend in Ireland, regarding the 'translation' of the blessed Ilan Pappe from 'apartheid' Haifa to that haven of philosemitism, Exeter University in south west England - no doubt far from the madding crowd.
In case you've forgotten, Pappe was responsible for the British academic unions' attempts to boycott Haifa and Bar Ilan Universities recently. And yes, it's coming up again.
When I arrived in Haifa last August, I couldn't find the university he described. Maybe he needs to get himself some glasses. What I found was a university far better integrated than any in Britain, and certainly than Manchester where I used to teach.
Interesting that Pappe's brother is the German consul in Haifa.
Various biblical stories of brothers come to mind here. You know, Jacob and Esau - Isaac and Ishmael?
Actually, the most famous person to be translated before Pappe was probably the prophet Elijah, of Mount Carmel fame. Seeing as the university stands right at the top of said mount .....
